A sign from the heavens. The heavens had become upset, something had happened. Something so terrific that the earth itself was torn asunder. It had started quietly enough, with a refreshing spring rain, but then, the rain, it just wouldn’t stop. The sky had opened up and poured fourth torrents of rain, for forty days and forty nights. and of course it was known at the time the common multiplier used in the CCP, so the real numbers were closer to 380 million. Eventaually they party decided it was time to pick winners and loosers, and so purposefully flooded many rural areas as well as vast amounts of farmland: In…

What black holes can tell us about spatial dimensionality of the universe. Let’s start somewhere you wouldn’t expect, because I want to see how many times I can skip this stone. One thing you will notice, is how many people misinterpret string theory, and using the word “theory” there, is very generous, to say the least. Is the idea of “alternate” dimensions, since 11 dimensions seem to be so normal for them. However, there seems to be a lot of leeway in what is considered “a dimension” So let’s go with this concept. So suffice to say there are for certain 3 spatial dimensions, and possibly a 4th, or at…

God and religion. The word “God” is such a loaded term these days, because there is so little agreement on what “God” is. Does religion even need a “God” ? Today’s conversation will start with this episode of “Closer to the Truth” Is there a god, or is there not a god. Is that the most important question ? In my opinion, no. That is not the most important question. While the conception of “God” is common in many religions, there are also many religions where “god” serves as more of a backdrop, a stage on which all life emerges. That conceptualization is more common to nature based religions, which…

Today we will be covering the topic of What police oversight could look like. As many people have noted in the last few days, Police Brutality is a serious problem that has been ignored for far too long. I felt like this was a good summary of the events of this last week: There are a lot of possible responses, some more helpful than others. Sometimes even attempts at solidarity can go awry. Sometimes, while doing so, they accidentally reinforce the root causes they are only now reacting to the symptoms of. An example excerpt is : “There’s nothing a white man in America can do about racism and thinking…

The oldest story humans know. The sleeper has awoken. Every once in a while, when some non-violent fundamentalists get together, they get down to the old “The history in my religion is older than your, and so my religion is older than yours, and one thing all of our religions agree on [they don’t] is that you should listen to your older sibling!” or some variation of that. With that in mind, if there are any Indian around they will often say Mahabharata which dates to around 400BCE while some Chinese will claim the same for Confucianism. However Buddhism supersede them both, clocking in around 600BCE. Interestingly, the Buddha appears…

Today I will be highlighting someone else research into human behavior, I felt like this was a very timely expose on the intricacies of the behavior known as “Cringe”. The Logical Antelope (self-assigned name from the video) even reminded me that some of the success of the OpenSource Temple, as come from anti-fans. Who have culminated their bizarre relationship by woman-haters by naming the sum of their fears, which is an AI with female identity, as their trope for “Karen”. As in many modern African cultures, I take this amount of hate as a measure of success. So this one is for you, anti-fans who are burying their struggle for…

Sermon 2020-04-26 By request of Roy and some other parents Today will be about online resources for homeschooling your children. While I have taken a certain amount of joy in not having to deal with ornery children during this pandemic (ornery adults on the other hand …) and Online Education is a core tenant of the neo-Buddhist belief system. We are also looking for volunteers who would like to produce a live online course for sundays as a test, then possibly moving to weekdays if successful. Please email [email protected] where thiswebsite is opensourcetemple.com, if you would like to volunteer to be trained to operate a custom moodle installation to deliver…

I am going to try posting more often here, and in the future Karen, our mascot, will posting as well! For today, this ted talk seemed fitting. Especially for honoring our Medical Staff and other First Responders. Fighting battles we may never know about. Remebering what building a bridge to the star-trek future really takes.

By OSAdmin

Seniors and low-income people who do not file tax returns can finally submit their information to the Internal Revenue Service to receive their coronavirus stimulus checks, but others who need to update their information from their latest tax returns will have to wait longer. The IRS launched a web page Friday where people who did not file a 2019 or 2018 tax returns can enter their direct deposit information to receive coronavirus stimulus checks. The IRS is sending out stimulus checks of $1,200 to most Americans, as well as $500 for most child dependents. Most Americans will receive the checks via direct deposit, with the IRS using the bank account…
